I was so saddened to see this news.  Up until the summer after junior year I only knew Lee casually from our gym classes and a few other classes we shared.  But that summer we became friends while working together at Edgar School.  We were hired to clean the school to get it ready for the next school year.  We had so much fun earning our $1.00/hour pay.  We worked with the 2 old timer regular custodians who kept us entertained with stories down in the bolier room at lunchtime.  Lee and I shared laughs every day especially when we used the floor buffing machine and went for wild rides smacking off the hallway walls until we got it under control and when we replaced those long burnt flourescent light tubes.  We'd take the day's collection of the old ones out to the big garbage can and after arranging them inside smash then with rocks to see the powder rise and hear the cool popping sound they made.  That's how you bond... sharing stupid but fun moments like those.  We never saw or heard from each other again after graduation but I will always have those fun memories of Lee from that summer and our closer friendship senior year as a result..

I'm sorry to hear about the loss of Lee Behrens.  Since I attended nine different schools in twelve years, I lost contact with virtually all my school friends and aquaintences.  I still hope to attend a reunion someday, and catch-up with some people I knew during my Sophomore and Junior years at MHS, '63 & '64.  I graduated in '65 at J. F. Kennedy HS, Willingboro, NJ.

Stay healthy,

I fondly remember Lee and how he took the abuse over his middle name "Monroe."  I believe it was Bill Erickson who was the instigator.

Another memory, one of the funniest in our HS years, was being with him and Bill in Mr. Hartland's gym class after the new wrestling mat had arrived and we all were to learn how to wrestle.  Lee and Bill put on a fake exhibition where, at the start of their match, Lee grabbed Bill's arm and twisted it as Bill did a summersault.  Lee immediately pinned Bill (n 3 seconds).  Mr. Hartland realizedit was an act and got quite upset! LOL!

RIP, Lee.

Deeply saddened by Lee Behrens passing. If my memory holds Lee and I went thru Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and the Metuchen High School band together. We attended the Boy Scout Jamboree in Colorado Springs, Co together. I remember attending classes together when Franklin School burned and we attended classes across the street.

Many other fond memories from a great friend. RIP to a fellow vetean.
