In 11th grade Ron was in Mr. John Morgan's World Literature class. Moving to Metuchen from Philadelphia that year, I didn't know anyone. Ron's intelligence made a quick impression on me. He was one of the stars of that class. He was wary of me at first, but we soon became friends.

I was really saddened to see the email that Ron had been added to our Memory page.  He was someone I looked up to in high school.  We had several classes together each year and that's how we became "school friends".  My memories are he was brilliant and mature way beyond his years in addition despite his very serious demenor he had a subtle and clever sense of humor.  He could have stepped right into Dick Cavett's shoes on his TV show.  I was tickled when I saw he was on FB and he accepted my Friend Request around 10 years ago.  It was fun reading his posts and comments.  Every now and then he would surprise me by commenting on one of my rants or one of my goofy posts.  He was surprised, pleased, and grateful when I sent him this photo of him receiving a journalism award at our graduation that I had saved all these years.  As I said we were not really friends outside of school but he is someone I am very happy to have crossed paths with.  .  .

Neil Weiner (Weiner)

Bill Malloy, Ron, and I have been meeting twice a month for the past year on Zoom.  We've enjoyed the banter and serious talks.

Ron and I lived a couple of blocks apart and attended school and classes together from kindergarten on.  Mr. Morgan's influence on Ron was apparent in his teaching high school English and even his sophisticated flair with art and culinary arts.

We are all aging and losing family, friends, and old classmates now.  When I meet Ron in the afterlife, I will again tease him about the pocket protecter he used to wear.  And we won't need Zoom anymore to connect.

To all my former classmates that I shared experiences with and those I never connected to, I slaute your caring.

Neil Weiner from Portland

Sorry to read of Ron's passing. Although friendly in high school, we lost touch after college. For those interested, there is an excellent obituary of Ron at the website of the Louisville Courier-Journal, the newspaper for which he was a columnist for many years.
